ÉCOLE ALLAIN ST CYR, YELLOWKNIFE
Located in Yellowknife, in the North Slave region, École Allain St-Cyr is a wonderful community school with a bright and modern architectural design. The school was named in honour of Allain St-Cyr, who played a major role in the development of Yellowknife’s Francophone community in the 1990s. But it was in November 1988 that a few Francophone residents met to discuss the possibility of starting a school for rights holders in Yellowknife. And it was thanks to the work of Lisette Aspireault, Denis Gaboury, Bernadette LeBlanc-Fortier, Lucie St-Denis and Danielle Van Praet, who were helped in their efforts by Luc Laferté, that the French first-language school, École Allain St-Cyr, first opened its doors in September 1989!
Over the last few years, the expansion of the Francophone community in the Far North has led to an increase in enrolment numbers at our school. With its high-quality teaching programs and specialized and individualized services, École Allain St-Cyr remains the first choice for Francophone families in the Northwest Territories.
Today, the construction of a new gym and the expansion of a second wing of classrooms have created a buzz of excitement throughout our community.

The modest beginnings of École Boréale date back to 1998, when it was first established within an English-language school in Hay River with just eight students.
Thanks to the hard work of parents and Francophone organizations in the region, the École Boréale grew steadily and eventually acquired a temporary school of its own, made up of four portable buildings set up on the land at 56A Woodland Drive in 2002.
In 2004, the first ground was broken at the current home of École Boréale, and by September 2005, Francophone and Francophile residents of Hay River finally had a school all their own, at 145 Riverview Drive!
